The Surrounding Area

Rhodes is well known for its sunny climate. Blessed by the sun god Helios, it boasts an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. The island is said to have risen from the sea and on its highest mountain peaks sea shells have been found.

The island enjoys a healthy economy, mainly due to tourism. Despite this the friendliness of the people has not been compromised in any way and it is often the first impression on any visitor, even if they are regular travellers to Greece. The east coast of the island offers mile upon mile of glorious beaches easily accessible and most with facilities.

The west coast is mountainous and rugged, a lush green forest of vegetation and always cooler than its eastern sister. From certain points on the west coast you command excellent views to the neighbouring islands of Halki and Symi, even the coastline of Turkey is visible. Mountain villages offer wineries, local crafts such as rug weaving and local produce such as honey and Souma are readily available.

The famous valley of the butterflies is only a 20 min drive away and is a fascinating country park with the wonderful wildlife and of course millions of butterflies.

If you prefer the beach then the golden sands of Afandou is only 20 minutes by car or taxi. water parks can be found in Faliraki which is a 30 min drive, you can enjoy the nightlife with bars ,disco and nightclubs. but if you prefer the quieter life then the village of Psinthos is only a short walk from the villa were you will find the very friendly local people to welcome you there are several restaurants and coffee bars also internet cafe ,supermarkets, butchers and post office can be found.

Rhodes town. 30mins by car, well! what a town ,very cosmopolitan, the shopping is fantastic, it will take you a week to see all of them, the harbor plays host to very large ferry's and ships also the luxury yacht cruises that can be booked for days out and excursions ,you can book a ferry to turkey from here for even more shopping Rhodes town is split into two, the old town which is built within the walls of the huge castle and is guarded by the ancient avenue of the knights, then there is the new town with modern shops and cafe bars wonderful place.
